Katie Mantwa George’s Story

I’m based in London, but spend time in both London and Cape Town with family in both locations.

I’m inspired by the power of publishing as a way of accelerating the beauty of inclusivity as well as inspiring creativity and innovation.  I absolutely love anything paper and have been writing poetry and stories since I can remember being able to write! I have thousands of poems that depict my feelings and experiences as I journey through life, from personal family events, current news and imaginary moments. Writing has been my passion for nearly 30 years!

My Children’s books aim to instill pride and belonging in children. My own South African and British heritage has inspired my writing and purpose.

Mantwa means ‘cheeky’ or ‘fighter’ in Sotho and is my middle name.

I am available for book readings and speaking opportunities.

Thank you for being here. Learn more about my debut book below.

My debut book is now available in stores. This book focuses on what it means to be from a mixed heritage background, reflecting on my own background as a person of South African and British heritage, born in Eswatini.

The book follows my sister, niece and nephew and the challenges and joys we face as a mixed heritage family, with a reflection on the question we get asked most often; where are you from?

Meadow & Marley’s Magical Mix was released in June 2022. In partnership with Little Steps Publishing.

Illustrations by Natalie Creed

As the fastest growing race in the UK and in many parts of the world, I want all mixed heritage children and families to know that they can stand in pride for their unique magical mixes.
